When it comes to accurately measuring small weights, a precision scale, also known as a pocket scale, is the best solution. In this category there are several types of precision scales, as well as the calibration weights needed to calibrate the scale. The accuracy of our digital scales ranges from 0.001 gram to 0.1 gram, and its maximum weight can measure up to 3 kilograms. This ensures that everyone can find the scale that suits them best in our online store.

In most cases, scales have the following 4 settings:

  • g
  • ct
  • ounces

You can read more about scale types and their additional features here.

What types of scales are there?

According to measurement accuracy

The accuracy of the scale determines how accurate the measurement result is.

  • 0.001 g

1 milligram measurement accuracy. It is extremely sensitive and must be used in an area completely protected from wind (including breath) and vibration for accurate results.

  • 0.01 g

Extremely precise scale that can also be used as a stamp scale or model making scale.

  • 0.05 g

A digital scale that measures to the second decimal place in 5 (twentieth gram) increments. Greater maximum weight, yet high accuracy.

  • 0.1 g

Less accurate scales for larger weights, e.g. kitchen scale.

According to maximum weight

The higher the maximum weight, the more difficult it is for the scale to determine the mass with thousandths of accuracy - but this is usually not the main aspect for these scales, but the measurement of objects weighing up to 2 kilos.

  • 50 g - 100 g

Extremely accurate precision scale. It is suitable for determining the weight of very light objects such as precious metals, expensive spices or medicines.

  • 150 g - 500 g

Accurate precision scales for medium to large quantities of light goods such as herbs or jewellery, and small quantities of medium-heavy goods such as dietary supplements or cosmetics.

  • 500 g - 3000 g

Compact scale for light to medium heavy objects. These scales usually measure with an accuracy of 0.1 g.

These generally small scales are practical for home use, but at the same time they are completely mobile, as they can fit in small spaces.

Accuracy is important

Digital scales can display the measurement result in different measurement units. Before measuring, it is necessary to make sure that the correct unit of measurement is set.

Calibration

Our scales are usually delivered already calibrated. However, after longer use, the scale may become inaccurate, so it needs to be calibrated. It is easy to test the accuracy of a balance - a 1 euro coin weighs 7.50 grams, so if the balance shows a significantly different result, it needs to be recalibrated. This can be done by following the 3 simple steps below:

  1. Determine required weight - press and hold the "C"/"Cal" or "T"/"Tare" button until the scale shows the desired weight.
  2. After pressing "Cal" or "Tare", place the appropriate weight on the measuring surface and wait until the display stops flashing. Be sure to perform the calibration on a stable surface!
  3. Take off the weight and check that the scale is accurate.

Tips for the correct handling of digital precision scales:

  • use the scale on stable, unmoving ground
  • only move the scale when it is switched off
  • avoid unnecessary transport and impact
  • do not place objects directly on the measuring surface. Use a measuring cup or dish to place the goods on the scale
  • regularly check the measurement accuracy and calibrate if necessary.
