What is kratom and what are its uses?

Kratom (Mitragyna Speciosa) is a tree species native to the tropical regions of South Asia, growing up to 15 meters tall, a relative of coffee. Not for human consumption, a natural plant material: it can be used as a vegetable dye, for aromatization, or for external use.

What types of kratom are there?

There is only one type of kratom tree (Mitragyna Speciosa). The leaves in the crown of the tree receive the most sunlight, so the veins of the upper leaves turn red. Red Kratoms are made from these leaves. The veins of the leaves in the middle, shadier parts of the foliage retain their green color, and Green Kratoms are selected from these leaves. The leaves at the bottom of the canopy receive so little light that the veins of the leaves turn white and the stems elongate, these leaves are used to make White Kratoms. Based on the color of the leaves, we distinguish 3 types of kratom (green, red and white kratom), other colors, e.g. yellow, cover different mixtures. The oldest leaves of the kratom tree can contain more than 40 types of alkaloids, among which Mitragynine and 7-Hydroxymitragynine are the most important. In addition to the color of the veins of the leaves, the type of kratom is also influenced by the place of origin of the tree (Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia), geographical characteristics (swampy, drier area), rainfall and the method of drying and grinding itself.
