Most plant problems can be prevented by paying attention to the plant. The most important factors to pay attention to are: the right amount of water, a well-chosen medium, the amount of light, the right amount of air flow, and of course, the right fertilizer for the plant's life cycle. Our growing media offer solutions for several growing methods, be it hydroponic, coco or plain soil-based cultivation.

Steps to choosing the perfect substrate (growing medium)

1. Choosing the type of substrate (and growing method)

This can be organic peat-based soil, Plagron Lightmix, which contains only a minimal amount of nutrients, Plagron Grow, which, on the other hand, satisfies all the needs of the plant in the first three weeks due to the fertilizer combination it contains. So, it is enough to decide whether the grower wants to start with already prepared soil or whether he wants to exercise full control over the medium from the moment of starting.

Another popular type of medium is coconut substrate: Plagron Cocos Premium perlite, which contains 70% coconut fiber and 30% perlite, functions as a medium, another good solution can be Coconut bricks, which require some preparation before use, but it is worth it because it is considered a pure and natural product.

As a neutral soil, a good choice is Plagron Euro Pebbles Hidro Balls, which can be used with a variety of growing methods, and is excellent for circulation systems due to its high oxygen and water absorption capacity, or Canna Aqua Clay Pebbles, which can be used to easily monitor the nutrient use and moisture levels of your plants, making them also well suited for use in hydroponic systems.

2. Degree of preparation

Another useful aspect when choosing is whether the grower wants to start with pre-fertilized soil or whether they want to exercise full control over the medium from the start. Plagron Batmix soil is an excellent choice for this, as it provides full fertilization from the beginning for at least six weeks due to the extra phosphorus and potassium it contains, thus guaranteeing abundant flowering. Plagron Allmix soil provides all the plants' needs during the entire cycle - as it results in perfect lightness and oxygen levels thanks to the different types of fibers and perlite. Plagron Promix gives full grower freedom, which does not contain added nutrients, but contains different types of fibers, peat and vermicompost - all of which stimulate the growth of soil organisms and activate organic fertilizers, but fertilization can be entirely the responsibility of the grower.

3. Purpose of cultivation

There are several cultivation objectives that can be defined. If the goal is to grow the best tasting final product, Plagron Batmix and Canna Coco Professional Plus are a good choice, but if high yields are the primary goal, Plagron Royal Mix soil can be an excellent base, as it contains different types of fibers, peat and vermicompost - all of which ensure strong plant growth and increased water retention.

By considering these three simple steps, you can choose the growing medium that best suits your goals.
