The origin of mate

Mate tea is the national drink of the people of South America, which is increasingly conquering the rest of the world. Yerba mate is 100% natural, it does not undergo any chemical treatment during its preparation. Mate is the national drink of the people of Argentina, Paraguay, Brazil and Uruguay, and has been increasingly popular with us for many years.

What are the benefits of drinking mate tea?

Due to its high caffeine content, it has a great energizing effect, but unlike coffee, it does not make you wake up suddenly, but gradually, so it is a more popular alternative for many. Its consumption helps concentration and can also increase physical endurance.

Drinking mate tea

The most well-known method of drinking mate tea is based on tradition and requires nothing more than a so-called bombilla straw and a mate gourd + warm (not boiling) water, cold water and yerba mate tea.

Different types to make your choice easier

Traditional yerba mate is a blend of leaves and stems in an optimal ratio, which gives it its characteristic aroma, strength and consistency – this is what we call “con palo” mate tea. Yerba mate teas that only contain leaves typically have a softer, less characteristic taste, and are called “sin palo” or “despalada”. Traditional teas with stems include Pajarito Tradicional or even Taragüi Traditonal teas. Of the despalada varieties, Taragüi Sin Palo or Rosamonte Despalada teas are excellent choices.

The preparation method can also vary in terms of smokiness. Traditional mate teas have a slightly smoky taste, such as Rei Verde mate teas, but there are also those in which the mate leaves are dried with hot air instead of fire, so their taste still resembles traditional mate, but they are completely smoke-free – such as Kraus Organic and AGUAMATE mate teas.
