Description

The Kalabasa drinking vessel for Yerba Mate tea is a handmade drinking cup made of a gourd, which is simple and ideal for everyday use. It is practical to use, easy to clean and maintain, a great choice for beginners. The top is surrounded by metal. During use of the mate mug, the gourd may discolor, which is a natural process that occurs with the absorption of the tea. As it is a natural product, the shape, shade and capacity of each piece may vary. The cup must be prepared before first use to ensure a longer lifespan.

Main features

  • capacity: 150 ml
  • rim: metal
  • country of origin: Argentina

Preparing the gourd drinking vessel
Before first use, fill the mug with mate and hot water and let it rest for at least 24 hours - this way the mug will set and the natural material (gourd) will soak up the mate flavor. Then wash the vessel and you can enjoy your fresh mate tea. (If you use a glass or metal vessel for making mate tea, you do not need to follow this process.)

What is a gourd?
A mate gourd is a vessel related to the gourd, made of Lagenaria, which - like Hungarians - was also used by South American Indians to store liquids and make musical instruments. Since it is a product of natural origin, there may be minor or major differences in size and color. The mate gourd may discolor during use. This is a natural process that results from the absorption of yerba mate tea and does not affect the usefulness of the mate gourd. It is recommended to clean the mate gourd after each use and dry it with the open side up. A common mistake is to dry the mate gourd with the opening down, which will keep it moist longer and may shorten its lifespan. The upper part is covered with metal, which protects the mate gourd from damage.
